Kenyan Chapattis

Kenyan chapattis are a staple in many households, often served during special occasions and gatherings. Originating from Indian influence, these flatbreads have become a beloved part of Kenyan cuisine, symbolizing hospitality and community. Today, chapattis are enjoyed not only in Kenya but also in various forms across East Africa, often accompanying stews or vegetables.
all-purpose flour

Whole wheat flour adds fiber and nutrients.

💰Cheaper: vegetable oil
Olive oil is healthier while vegetable oil is more affordable.
Mix 2.5 cups all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon salt, and 2 tablespoons sugar in a bowl.
Add 1 cup of water gradually and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil to the dry ingredients.
Knead the dough for about 15 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Wrap the dough and let it rest for 10 minutes.
Divide the dough into 6 equal parts and shape them into balls.
Roll each ball into a flat circle.
Brush oil onto the circle and fold it to create layers.
Roll the folded dough into a circle again.
Heat the pan on low heat for about 20 minutes.
Cook each chapati for 3 minutes on each side until bubbles form and it's brown on the bottom.
Brush oil on both sides while cooking to keep it soft.
Store the cooked chapatis in a bowl covered with a tea towel.
