Soak mixed dried fruit (sultanas, raisins, currants) in spiced rum for a while.
Combine lukewarm milk, sugar, and yeast; let sit until foamy.
Add flour, salt, cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon zest, and egg to the yeast mixture; mix until a dough forms.
Knead the dough for about 8 minutes to develop strength.
Incorporate softened butter into the dough gradually, kneading for another 5 minutes.
Add slivered almonds and mixed peel to the dough; mix until evenly distributed.
Shape the dough into a ball and cover with a tea towel; let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Shape the risen dough into a rough rectangle, fold the ends towards the middle, and pinch to seal.
Cover and let rest for 10-15 minutes.
Roll out almond paste (marzipan) and fold it into the dough; shape it into a loaf.
Place on a parchment-lined tray and cover; let rise until puffed up.
Brush with melted butter after baking.
Dust with icing sugar before slicing.
