Homemade chili paste can be made with fresh ingredients, and hot sauce is often less expensive.

Heat 1 tablespoon of sesame oil in a pan.

Add 1 diced jalapeno and a bag of dried red chilies, breaking them up with your hands.

Pour in 1/2 cup of soy sauce and 1/2 cup of vegetarian hoisin sauce, mixing well.

Add 2 tablespoons of minced ginger and 1 tablespoon of minced garlic to the mixture.

Stir in 1 bag of vegan chicken and cook until heated through.

Serve the mixture over steamed rice and garnish with scallions or chopped peanuts.
