The combination of sweet caramel balanced with a hint of salt creates a delightful contrast that has gained popularity worldwide. Today, salted caramel is a staple in many desserts, from ice creams to pastries, and has found its way into various culinary traditions across the globe.

unsalted butter

Olive oil is a healthier fat alternative, while margarine can be a cost-effective swap.
Add 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1/2 cup of water into a large pot.
Heat the mixture over medium heat until it comes to a boil, about 1 minute.
Do not stir the mixture while it boils; let it boil on its own.
After about 5 minutes, the mixture will start to thicken and the sugar will dissolve completely.
Continue to boil without stirring for another 5 minutes until the color starts to change and darken.
Keep boiling for another 5 minutes until the mixture is much darker and thicker.
Turn off the stove once the desired caramel color is achieved, just before it burns.
Add in 1/3 cup of cold salted butter to the caramel to drop the temperature and stop the cooking process.
Pour in 1/2 cup of cold whipping cream and mix well to combine.
Let the caramel sit for a few hours to cool and thicken further before transferring it to a jar.
