Caramel sauce can be lighter, and sweetened condensed milk is often less expensive.

Boil water, butter, and salt in a saucepan over medium heat until the butter melts.

Remove from heat and stir in flour until a dough forms.

Let the dough cool slightly before adding eggs one at a time, mixing until smooth.

Stir in sugar and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.

Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.

Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).

Pipe strips of dough into the hot oil, cutting them to desired length.

Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.

Remove churros and drain on paper towels.

Mix sugar and cinnamon in a bowl; roll churros in the mixture while warm.

Using a piping bag, fill each churro with dulce de leche through one end.

Dust filled churros with powdered sugar before serving.
