Measure out 1 cup of corn masa and place it in a bowl.
Add 2 cups of water to the bowl with the corn masa and use your hands to break it up and dissolve it.
Strain the mixture to remove any lumps, leaving just the liquid.
In a saucepan, add 6 cups of water and bring it to low heat.
Pour the strained corn masa liquid into the saucepan with water and cook on low heat for about 30 minutes, stirring frequently to avoid lumps.
After 30 minutes, check the consistency; it should be smooth and thick.
Add half of a can of sweetened condensed milk to the mixture for sweetness, adjusting to taste.
Optionally, add vanilla, cinnamon, or Mexican chocolate for flavor variations.
