Brown rice adds fiber and nutrients, while white rice is more economical.
Soak glutinous rice in water for at least 6 hours or overnight.
Drain the soaked rice and place it in a bamboo steamer lined with banana leaves.
Steam the rice over simmering water for about 30-40 minutes, until tender and sticky.
Remove the steamer from heat and let the rice sit for 10 minutes to firm up.
Transfer the sticky rice to a serving bowl and fluff with a fork.
Optionally, mix in coconut milk, sugar, and salt for added flavor.
Serve warm with grilled meats, vegetables, or as a dessert with fruit.
