Originating from the Campania region of Italy, Caprese salad is a celebration of fresh ingredients, traditionally featuring tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil. When paired with grilled steak, it transforms into a hearty dish that balances the richness of the meat with the freshness of the salad. This dish is especially popular in summer, when tomatoes and basil are at their peak, and has inspired variations worldwide, often incorporating different proteins or dressings.

fresh mozzarella

balsamic vinegar

Red wine vinegar is lower in calories and has a similar tangy flavor.
Pick fresh basil leaves and roll them up like a cigar, then slice them using the chiffonade method.
Slice fresh mozzarella.
Slice tomatoes.
Season the steak with salt and pepper on one side, then place it in a preheated 12-inch cast iron skillet with cooking oil.
Season the other side of the steak with salt and pepper.
Cook the steak for about 3-4 minutes without moving it to develop a nice crust.
After about 3 minutes, turn the steak over and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
Add butter, garlic cloves, and fresh herbs to the skillet.
Baste the steak with the melted butter and herbs until the butter is foamy, about 30 seconds.
Remove the cooked herbs and garlic from the pan and drain excess oil.
Layer fresh mozzarella and tomatoes on top of the steak.
Place the skillet in a preheated 400-degree oven for about 5 minutes to melt the cheese and heat the tomatoes.
After 5 minutes, remove from the oven; the mozzarella should be slightly melted and the tomatoes heated.
Drizzle with balsamic glaze and extra virgin olive oil, then top with fresh basil.
