chicken broth

🥗Healthier: vegetable broth

💰Cheaper: water + bouillon cubes

Vegetable broth is lower in calories, and bouillon is cost-effective.

1

Start by boiling 2.5 pounds of boneless skinless chicken breast in a pot of water.

2

While the chicken is boiling, chop 1 bell pepper and half an onion (or a whole onion if preferred).

3

Prepare some sausage (any kind) to add to the gumbo.

4

Once the chicken is cooked, remove it from the pot and let it cool before chopping it up.

5

In another pot, add the broth from the boiled chicken to the pot of boiling water.

6

Add the Cajun gumbo base to the boiling water and mix it up.

7

Let the vegetables (bell pepper and onion) cook for about 5 minutes in the gumbo base.

8

Add the chopped chicken and sausage to the pot and let it boil until the vegetables are tender (approximately 20 minutes).

9

After cooking, let the gumbo cool and then refrigerate it overnight to enhance the flavors before serving.
