Heat 2 cups of milk lightly.
Take out 1/4 cup of milk in a bowl.
Add 2 tablespoons of vanilla custard powder to the 1/4 cup milk and mix until smooth.
In the heated milk, add 1/2 cup of sugar and stir until dissolved.
Cut 6 slices of bread into small cubes.
Butter the bread slices generously on both sides.
Prepare a mold by greasing it with butter.
Layer the buttered bread cubes in the mold with the buttered side facing up.
Add 1/2 cup of raisins and chopped walnuts on top of the bread.
Pour the custard mixture over the bread, ensuring it soaks well.
Grate nutmeg over the top for flavor.
Sprinkle powdered sugar on top if desired.
Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 35 minutes, first baking for 25 minutes on the lower coil and then for 10 minutes on both coils.
