Wash the basmati rice thoroughly to remove excess starch, scrubbing it well.

Strain the rice using a sieve.

Put the strained rice back into a bowl and add water, using 1.5 cups of water for each cup of rice. Soak for 30 minutes to 1 hour.

After soaking, strain the rice again.

Put the rice into a pot and add enough water to cover it, ensuring the water is at least 1 inch higher than the rice level.

Add 2 teaspoons of salt and 2 teaspoons of vegetable oil (or olive oil) to the pot.

Cover the pot and bring the water to a boil.

Once boiling, gently pour the basmati rice into the boiling water, stirring properly with a spatula.

Cover the pot and let it boil for 3 minutes.

Stir the rice for the next 7 minutes, for a total of 10 minutes of cooking time.

After 10 minutes, strain the basmati rice again.

Return the strained rice to the pot and cover it to simmer for another 10 minutes on the stove without heat.

After 10 minutes of simmering, serve the basmati rice.
