Black Bean Chipotle Burgers

Rinse and drain the black beans from the can.
Mash the black beans in a large bowl using a potato masher until mostly smooth, leaving some pieces intact.
Dice a small onion (about ⅓ cup) and add it to the mashed black beans.
Add 2 teaspoons of minced garlic to the mixture.
Open a jar of chipotle peppers and add 2 tablespoons of the mashed chipotle peppers and 2 tablespoons of the juice from the jar to the mixture.
Add salt and pepper to taste.
Add 1 teaspoon of cumin to the mixture.
If you don't have cumin, you can substitute with taco seasoning or Tex-Mex seasoning.
Add 1 tablespoon of balsamic vinegar and 2 tablespoons of Japanese soy sauce to the mixture.
Mix all ingredients thoroughly.
Add 1 cup of panko breadcrumbs to the mixture and mix well.
Add 1 large beaten egg to the mixture and combine well.
Cover the mixture and refrigerate for 20 to 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld and for the breadcrumbs to absorb moisture.
After refrigerating, divide the mixture into 4 to 6 burger patties.
Heat a few tablespoons of olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
Cook the patties for about 4 to 5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
Assemble the burgers with desired toppings and serve.
