1

Start by browning 1 pound of ground sirloin in a stock pot over medium heat, breaking apart the meat with a wooden spoon as it cooks.

2

Once browned, drain any excess grease.

3

Add 1 cup finely chopped onion, 1 large green bell pepper chopped, and 2 cloves of minced garlic to the pot.

4

Cook until the onions begin to turn translucent but not browned.

5

Now add a 29 ounce can of diced tomatoes, a 15 ounce can of tomato sauce, and 14 ounces of beef broth to the pot.

6

Add 1/4 teaspoon dry thyme, 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, and 1/2 teaspoon salt, then stir everything together and cover.

7

Cook on a low simmer for about 45 minutes.

8

In the meantime, cook 1 cup of rice using a rice cooker or a saucepan on the stove.

9

On the stove, add 1 cup rice to 2 cups boiling water, cover, reduce heat to very low, and let cook for 20 minutes.

10

When the soup has simmered for 45 minutes and the rice is done cooking, add the rice to the stock pot and stir everything together.

11

Cook for a couple more minutes and serve.
