Preheat the oven to 325°F (163°C).
Open the ham and rinse it off to remove any particles.
Place the ham in a roasting pan.
Pour about half of a 32 oz can of beer over the top of the ham.
Pour 2 cups of water at the bottom of the roasting pan (not on top of the ham).
Sprinkle ground cloves on top of the ham.
Cover the ham loosely with foil or a lid.
Cook the ham for about 10 to 12 minutes per pound, roughly 1 hour and 40 minutes to 2 hours total.
Check the ham every 25 to 30 minutes and baste if desired.
After cooking, cut the first layer off the ham to reveal the juices.
Transfer the ham to a crock pot to keep warm and retain juices.
