Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh jalapeños
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. 1Wash the jalapeños and slice them into rings, removing the seeds if you prefer less heat.
  2. 2In a large saucepan, combine the sugar, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder, turmeric, cayenne pepper, black pepper, and salt.
  3. 3Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is dissolved.
  4. 4Add the sliced jalapeños to the saucepan and return to a boil.
  5. 5Reduce the heat and let the jalapeños simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. 6Using a slotted spoon, transfer the jalapeños to sterilized jars, leaving some space at the top.
  7. 7Continue to simmer the syrup for an additional 5-10 minutes until it thickens slightly.
  8. 8Pour the hot syrup over the jalapeños in the jars, ensuring they are fully submerged.
  9. 9Seal the jars with lids and let them cool to room temperature before refrigerating.
  10. 10Allow the cowboy candy to sit in the refrigerator for at least 24 hours before using for the best flavor.
