Clean the chicken and place it in a pot of cold water.

Bring the water to a boil and scoop out the white foam that appears on top.

In a small pot, boil 3/4 cup of dried split chickpeas until soft, then drain and set aside.

Heat oil in a larger pot and add bay leaves, whole cardamom, whole cloves, and broken cinnamon sticks until they start to sizzle.

Add a quartered onion and a quartered tomato to the pot, along with 4 cloves of minced garlic.

Add the cleaned chicken to the pot with the onions and spices, along with enough water to barely cover the chicken.

Add Maggie cubes and salt, cover the pot, and let it cook for 30-40 minutes, checking occasionally.

After 30 minutes, check on the chicken and continue cooking until fully cooked.

In a shallow pot, heat a little water and add 1 large finely chopped onion, cooking until browned and slightly burnt.

Wash and soak 2 cups of basmati rice in cold water.

Add a little water to the browned onions if they stick to the pot.

Add 3/4 cup of sultanas to the browned onions, then add the drained split chickpeas.
