It reflects the rich culinary traditions of Alexandria, where it is commonly served with a variety of toppings. Today, it is cherished across the Middle East and beyond, with variations that include spices and garnishes to suit local tastes.

Green peas provide a similar texture and flavor.
Wash the fresh fava beans thoroughly.
Clean the fava beans and cut them into bite-sized pieces.
Cut some colorful peppers, one medium-sized onion, and a few cloves of garlic.
Add olive oil and pepper infused oil to the pan.
Add the fava beans on top of the oil and cook them, allowing them to steam in their own moisture.
Stir the fava beans often to prevent burning.
Once the fava beans are getting softer, cover with a towel and shake gently to avoid mashing them.
Let the fava beans simmer for a few more minutes before adding garlic and onions.
Add garlic and onions to the pan and cook until they are soft.
Add the colorful peppers to the pan.
Add a little more water if the liquid has evaporated.
Add half a teaspoon of tomato paste for color.
Season with salt and pepper to taste and stir well.
Continue cooking until the fava beans are ready.
Before turning off the heat, add frozen dill (or fresh if available) to the dish.
Let the dish cool down a bit before plating.
Plate the fava beans and optionally add a dollop of garlic yogurt or plain yogurt on top.
