Onion Gravy

1 medium onion
500 ml boiling water
2 beef stock cubes
2 tbsp plain white (all-purpose) flour
1/2 tsp ground black pepper
1 pinch salt
Vegetable oil for frying the onion

Peel the onion and chop it in half.

Slice thinly and fry in vegetable oil over medium heat for about 30 minutes, until nicely browned all over.

Dissolve the stock cubes in the boiling water.

When the onions are caramelized, sift in some of the flour, stir until well mixed in, repeat until you have a thickish mixture.

Then pour in the stock and stir well.

Bring to the boil, add the pepper and some salt if needed.
