Open a can of fava beans and give them a wash.
Chop a tomato into small pieces and chop parsley.
Chop half a regular size onion.
In a pot or wok, heat a generous amount of olive oil over medium heat.
Add the chopped onion to the pot and season with salt and black pepper, cooking for about 3 minutes.
Add the chopped garlic and cook for another minute.
Add the chopped tomato and cook for about 3-4 minutes until softened.
Add the fava beans to the pot and stir, cooking for another 3-4 minutes.
Add a teaspoon of cumin and about a cup of water, stirring to combine.
Let the mixture cook for 5-6 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Use a potato masher to mash the beans to your desired consistency, leaving it fairly chunky.
Cook the mashed mixture for another 3 minutes.
Add a teaspoon of lemon juice and the chopped parsley to the mixture.
Add about 5 tablespoons of tahini and stir to combine.
Cook for an additional 2 minutes, checking for salt and consistency before serving.
