Today, variations of challah can be found worldwide, with many bakers experimenting with flavors and shapes, yet the essence of this sacred bread remains cherished in Jewish homes.
all-purpose flour

Flaxseed meal is a vegan alternative.
Measure 480 g of flour into a mixing bowl.
Add 3/4 cup of warm water to the flour.
Mix in 4 teaspoons of yeast.
Add 6 tablespoons of vegetable oil to the mixture.
Incorporate 3 tablespoons of honey into the dough.
Crack in 2 large eggs and 1 egg yolk.
Sprinkle in 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt.
Mix the ingredients until combined.
Knead the dough for about 8 minutes using a mixer.
Place the dough in a plastic container with a lid to rise until puffy, about 2 hours.
After rising, degas the dough and divide it into four equal pieces.
Roll each piece into strands about 20 inches long.
Braid the strands together in a four-strand braid configuration.
Let the braided dough rise again until puffy.
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Brush the top with the reserved egg white for an egg wash.
Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
