Pour warm water into a bowl and add yeast, letting it sit to soften.
Scald milk in a pan over medium heat, stirring to prevent burning, until steam rises, about 2 minutes.
Remove milk from heat and let cool slightly, then add sugar, lard, and salt, stirring to melt.
Wait for the milk mixture to cool until you can hold your finger in it for 10 seconds, about 5-7 minutes.
In a mixer, combine 1 cup of flour with the cooled milk mixture, then add one egg and mix well.
Add the softened yeast mixture to the bowl and mix to combine, ensuring no lumps remain.
Gradually add the remaining flour, reserving about 1/2 cup, mixing until a wet dough forms that can be touched.
Butter a smaller bowl and transfer the dough into it, covering with a towel to rise for about 30 minutes.
After the first rise, stretch the dough gently and cover again to rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
Grease a baking pan and flour the counter for rolling out the dough.
Roll the dough into a circle about 1/4 inch thick, ensuring even thickness for cooking.
Melt butter to brush on the dough before cutting.
Using a 2 1/2 inch round cutter, cut out circles from the rolled dough.
