While the classic version includes beets and potatoes, modern adaptations may feature different meats or dressings, showcasing the dish's versatility and popularity beyond Estonia.
Prepare the dressing by mixing 100 g of mayonnaise, 100 g of sour cream, 1 tsp. of horseradish, 1 tbsp. of mustard, and 1 tsp. of dill.
In a bowl, mix 250 g of boiled potatoes, 250 g of boiled beets, 100 g of herring, 50 g of apples, 50 g of pickled cucumbers, and 1 onion.
Season the salad with salt and pepper to taste.
Add the dressing to the salad and mix well.
Put the salad in the refrigerator for half an hour.
