Ingredients

  • 1 cup grits
  • 4 cups water

  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

  • 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. 1In a medium saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a boil.
  2. 2Add 1/2 tsp salt to the boiling water.
  3. 3Gradually whisk in 1 cup of grits, stirring constantly to prevent lumps.
  4. 4Reduce heat to low and cover the saucepan. Cook for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the grits are thick and creamy.
  5. 5Once the grits are cooked, stir in 1 cup of heavy cream and 1/4 cup of unsalted butter until well combined.
  6. 6Add 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese and stir until melted and creamy.
  7. 7Season with 1/4 tsp black pepper to taste.
  8. 8Serve hot as a side dish or base for shrimp or other toppings.
