Add 1/4 cup of granulated white sugar to 1 cup of warm water in a stand mixer.
Use a temperature gauge to ensure the water is about 105 degrees Fahrenheit.
Whisk the sugar and water together until dissolved.
Add 2 tablespoons of dry active yeast to the mixture and stir.
Let the yeast sit for 5 minutes until it becomes foamy and bubbly.
Add 1/3 cup of canola oil, 1 egg, and 1.5 teaspoons of salt to the yeast mixture.
Start adding flour, beginning with 1 cup, and mix for a minute.
Switch to a dough hook and knead the dough for about 5 minutes, adding more flour if the dough is sticky.
Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl, coating it with oil.
Cover the bowl with cling wrap and a towel, then place it in the microwave to rise for about 45 minutes.
Once risen, punch down the dough to release air and transfer it to a cutting board.
Cut the dough in half; one half for a loaf and the other for slider buns.
Shape the loaf by tucking the sides underneath and place it in a greased bread pan.
Cover the loaf with cling wrap and let it rise for another 45 minutes in the microwave.
For the slider buns, shape the dough into smaller pieces and place them on a greased sheet pan.
Cover the slider buns with cling wrap and let them rise for another 45 minutes.
Prepare an egg wash by mixing 1 egg with 2 tablespoons of water.
Baste the risen bread and rolls with the egg wash before baking.
