- 4Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

- 6Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and then poke a hole in the center to form a bagel shape.
- 7Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add a tablespoon of sugar to the water.
- 8Boil the bagels in batches for about 1-2 minutes on each side. Remove and drain on a wire rack.
- 9Place the boiled bagels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. If desired, brush with egg wash for a shiny finish.
