Add 1 cup of whole milk into a small bowl and microwave until it reaches about 100 degrees.
Stir in 1 teaspoon of sugar and add 2 and a quarter teaspoons of active dry yeast. Set aside for 5-7 minutes until frothy.
In a stand mixer bowl, combine 4 and a half cups of all-purpose flour, half a cup of sugar, and 2 teaspoons of salt. Whisk to combine.
Add the frothy yeast mixture and 2 large room temperature eggs to the dry ingredients.
Mix on low with a dough hook for about 5 minutes until a soft dough forms.
Cut 76 grams (1/3 cup) of room temperature butter into small pieces and add to the dough gradually, mixing until fully incorporated.
Grease a large bowl with oil and place the dough inside, covering it to rise in a warm place for 1.5 to 2 hours.
Prepare dyed eggs by mixing hot water with vinegar and gel food coloring. Submerge raw eggs for about 3 minutes to dye them.
After rising, punch down the dough and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface.
