Agrodolce Red Onions

1/2 cup red wine vinegar
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Peel and slice the red onions into thin rings.

In a medium saucepan, combine the red wine vinegar, sugar, water, salt, black pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using).
