1

Wash 2 cups of maicillo like you would wash rice and soak it for about 6 hours to let it swell.

2

In a pot, add 1 cup of water and the sweetener (dulce) to melt it down.

3

Add cinnamon to the pot and bring it to a boil, stirring occasionally to prevent burning.

4

Continue boiling until the mixture reaches a thread-like consistency, about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

5

In another pot, heat the maicillo until it starts popping, covering it to keep the heat in.

6

Once it starts popping, reduce the heat and let it pop until most of it has burst, about 90% should pop.

7

Remove any unpopped kernels and set aside the popped maicillo.

8

If you can't find maicillo, you can use popcorn as an alternative; blend the popcorn to resemble maicillo.

9

Mix the blended popcorn with the sweetened mixture, adjusting the consistency as needed.

10

Wet your hands to form balls from the mixture, ensuring they are not too hot to handle.

11

Let the alborotos cool until firm, then they will harden as they cool.
