Chop off the ends of the sweet potatoes and peel them.
Cut sweet potatoes into circles, ensuring they are not too thin to avoid mushiness.

Wash sweet potatoes in cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch.
In a pan, add 2 tablespoons of water and layer in the cut sweet potatoes.
Season the first layer with white and brown sugar.
Add another layer of sweet potatoes and repeat the seasoning with sugar and salt.
Continue layering until all sweet potatoes are in the pan, finishing with a top layer of sugar.
Turn the heat to medium-low and cover the pan halfway to allow steam to escape.
Cook for 10 minutes, then flip the top layer of sweet potatoes without disturbing the bottom layer.
Cook for another 10 minutes, ensuring the sugars begin to liquefy.
After the second round of cooking, add kroll syrup and vanilla extract to the sweet potatoes.
Add a half stick of butter to the mixture and stir gently to combine.
Cook for an additional 5 minutes until sweet potatoes are done, checking for a darker color to indicate doneness.
