Make the marinade in a bowl by combining 1/2 cup whiskey, 1/4 cup soy sauce, 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup vegetable oil, juice of 1/2 lemon, and 1 teaspoon minced garlic.
Mix the marinade well.
Marinate the porterhouse steak in a plastic bag for at least 1 hour, up to 2-3 hours.
Preheat the grill to medium heat.
Sear both sides of the steak on the grill, cooking time will depend on the thickness and heat.
Cook the steak to medium-rare, adjusting time as necessary.
Plate the steak and serve with grilled onions and any desired sides.
