1 cup cornmeal
4 cups water
1/2 tsp salt
1 tbsp butter (optional)

In a medium saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a boil.

Add 1/2 tsp of salt to the boiling water.

Gradually whisk in 1 cup of cornmeal to prevent lumps from forming.

Reduce heat to low and cook, stirring frequently, for about 10-15 minutes until thickened.

If desired, stir in 1 tbsp of butter for added flavor.

Once thickened, remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

Pour the mixture into a greased dish or mold and let it set for at least 30 minutes.

Once set, cut into slices or squares.
