1/4 cup olive oil
a pinch of salt
2 whole carrots (peeled and diced)
1 cup crushed tomatoes
6-7 cups water
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
1 heaping teaspoon dried oregano

Finely chop an onion and add it to the soup pot.

Dice two whole peeled carrots and add them to the pot.

Rinse 2 cups of red lentils under cold running water and let them sit in cool water.
