Today, fried grits are enjoyed across the U.S., often featuring variations with different cheeses or toppings, showcasing the adaptability of this beloved comfort food.
Make the grits according to package instructions.
Pour cooked grits into a loaf pan lined with plastic wrap.
Refrigerate overnight.
The next day, slice grits into 1 inch slices.
Make an egg wash with two eggs and 2 tablespoons of water.
Mix together flour and 1 teaspoon of black pepper and salt to taste.
Dip grits in the egg wash, then dredge in flour.
Melt butter and oil in a non-stick skillet and fry grits over medium heat until brown.
Serve warm.
