Start with 180 g of lukewarm water.
Add in 1 teaspoon of dry yeast and mix, then leave for 10 minutes for the yeast to activate.
In a bowl, combine 300 g of strong white bread flour and 1 teaspoon of salt, mixing together.
Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the yeast water mix and 1 tablespoon of melted butter.
Mix together into a nice dough until it comes together into a soft and slightly sticky dough.
Transfer the dough onto a surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place the kneaded dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it, and leave it in a warm place until it has doubled in size, which takes about 1.5 hours.
Once risen, turn the dough out onto a surface, knock it back to remove gas, and knead for about 3-4 minutes.
Flour the surface and cut the dough into three roughly equal pieces.
For each piece, stretch and push the edges into the middle to tighten the gluten, turning between each stretch and press.
Turn the dough ball over and plump it up underneath, repeating with the other pieces.
Take one ball of dough and squish it out into an oblong shape.
Make a snip in either side at about a 45° angle and push that off, plumping the bottom up to resemble an old-fashioned telephone.
Place the shaped dough onto a lightly greased baking tray.
Flatten the ends of the dough slightly using a scraper.
Cover the tray with a plastic bag and leave in a warm place to prove for about 40 minutes.
After proving, push olives or raisins into the dough for noses and eyes.
Bake at 190° C in a fan oven (210° C in a normal oven) for about 15 minutes.
