Whole wheat dough adds fiber, while puff pastry is often less expensive.

Lay down cling film onto a surface that is about twice as long as needed.

Place the sausage meat into the middle of the cling film.

Cover the sausage meat with one layer of cling film and roll it out into shape.

Measure the length to ensure it is a foot long, or guesstimate if preferred.

Finish rolling it up in the cling film and place it into the freezer for 20 minutes to firm up.

Prepare a bacon weave by laying down strips of streaky bacon in a line up to a foot long.

Fold every other piece of bacon up to create a weave pattern.

Place one or two strips of bacon horizontally and fold down the earlier pieces of bacon.

Continue the weaving process until the bacon weave is complete.

Take the sausage meat out of the freezer and place it in the middle of the bacon weave.

Seal the ends with two more pieces of streaky bacon.

Lightly grease a baking tray and place the wrapped sausage meat on it.

Bake in the oven at 180°C for 1.5 hours until the bacon is golden brown and crispy.
