Classic Split Pea with Ham

Cultural Context

Split pea soup, a staple in American comfort food, has roots in medieval Europe where peas were a common food source. Traditionally made with leftover ham, it symbolizes frugality and resourcefulness. Today, it remains a beloved dish, often enjoyed during colder months for its hearty and satisfying qualities.
