Sesame Seed Breadsticks

Traditionally, they are enjoyed with dips or as part of an antipasto platter. Today, variations abound globally, with sesame seeds adding a nutty flavor and appealing texture, making them a favorite in many households.

Nutritional yeast offers a cheesy flavor with fewer calories.

Vegetable oil is often less expensive and works well for baking.
Combine water and yeast and rest for 5 minutes.
Add flour, sugar, salt, and butter and mix.
Add yeast solution and form a dough.
Cover and rest for 40 minutes.
Divide into 16 equal sized balls.
Knead, roll, and stretch each ball to form sticks.
Rub in sesame seed and aniseed. Wash in cold water and drain but keep wet; it's easier to stick to the surfaces.
Brush with garlic butter.
Bake at 200°C for 20 minutes. If you prefer crunchier breadsticks, turn the oven off and leave the tray in the oven for a further 15 minutes.
