2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup milk
3 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2 cups fresh or canned cherries, pitted and halved
1/4 cup powdered sugar (for dusting)

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.

Fold in the cherries gently to avoid breaking them.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Once cooled, dust the top with powdered sugar before serving.
