Boil water in a pot and add vegetable oil and salt.
Once boiling, add elbow macaroni and cook until soft enough to chew, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
In a pan over medium to high heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter.
Add 2 tablespoons of flour to the melted butter and stir to combine, cooking for about 1-1.5 minutes.
Gradually whisk in 1 cup (250 ml) of milk, stirring until thickened (about 3-5 minutes).
Add grated onion, 1.5 cups of grated cheese, black pepper, and white pepper to the thickened sauce, stirring until the cheese is melted and fully incorporated.
Remove from heat and quickly stir in 1 egg, mixing to incorporate without cooking the egg.
Drain the cooked macaroni and combine it with the cheese sauce, ensuring every grain is coated.
Grease a baking dish and pour the macaroni mixture into it.
Top with 0.5 to 0.75 cup of cheese and optionally crushed corn flakes for a crust.
Bake in the oven until golden and bubbly.
