Cultural Context
Quinoa, native to the Andean region of South America, was a staple for the Incas, who referred to it as the 'mother grain.' Its high protein content and versatility have made it a popular choice in modern diets, especially among health-conscious eaters. Today, quinoa is enjoyed globally, often featured in salads, bowls, and as a side dish.
Boil sufficient water to cover the quinoa, about 100-150 ml depending on the amount of quinoa and number of servings.
Add 1 teaspoon of reduced salt bouillon powder to the boiling water and stir to dissolve.
Cover the pot and keep boiling for a couple of minutes until the bouillon is dissolved.
Add the quinoa to the boiling water and stir.
Bring the mixture back to a boil, then reduce heat and let it simmer for 15 to 20 minutes.
Check if the quinoa is cooked; it should have absorbed all the water and doubled in size.
Serve the cooked quinoa.
