The umiak, a traditional skin boat used by the Inuit, is also a name for a type of fish caught in Alaskan waters. Grilling umiak is a cherished practice among Native Alaskans, often enjoyed during summer gatherings and celebrations. This dish highlights the connection to the land and sea, showcasing the flavors of the region. While umiak is less commonly found in modern markets, similar fish can be used, making this dish accessible to many.
