Rinse 1 cup of quinoa under cold water, swishing it around to remove the bitter soapy resin.
Drain the quinoa, leaving behind the cloudy water.
Toast the rinsed quinoa in a dry small saucepan until it starts to pop and smells nutty.
Add 1.5 cups of water to the toasted quinoa.
Add 1/4 teaspoon of kosher salt and stir.
Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to a bare simmer and cover.
Cook for about 15 to 20 minutes until the water has absorbed and the quinoa is plump.
Let the quinoa rest, covered, for about 10 minutes to finish the steaming process without stirring or uncovering.
Gently fluff the quinoa with a fork to separate the grains.
