Chop the onions into small cubes and press them with salt to soften their flavor.

Use store-bought herring fillets, approximately 500 g, and chop them into small pieces.

Begin layering the salad in a 20 cm diameter baking ring, starting with half the amount of grated potatoes as the base.

Sprinkle the potatoes with black pepper and add half the chopped onions on top.

Add half the herring fillets in an even layer over the onions.

Spread a layer of mayonnaise over the herring.

Grate the carrots and add them as the next layer, using the entire amount at once.

Grate the hard-boiled eggs, using only the egg whites for this layer, and spread them over the carrots.

Add another layer of mayonnaise on top of the egg whites.

Grate half of the beets and add them as the next layer, followed by more mayonnaise.

Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients: herring, onions, potatoes, and finish with the remaining beets and mayonnaise.

Carefully remove the baking ring to reveal the layered salad.

Decorate the top with reserved egg yolk and fresh dill.
