Peel the russet potatoes (3-5 pounds) and chop them into chunks.

Place the chopped potatoes in the ceramic insert of the crock pot.

Slice the butter (1/2 cup) into chunks and distribute it on top of the potatoes.

Pour in 1 cup of milk (the recipe calls for 2 cups total, but use the other cup as needed later).

Add 1 tablespoon of minced garlic, salt, and black pepper to the crock pot.
