Traditionally served during family gatherings, this hearty stew reflects the communal spirit of Sudanese dining. In modern times, variations exist across regions, with some adding meat or unique local spices, allowing for personal touches while honoring cultural roots.

Heat oil in a pot and toast the pasta.
Once the pasta reaches preferred color, add rice and toast for 1-2 minutes.
Add water or broth and 1 tablespoon of salt, mix to combine, and cover on high heat.
Once boiling, reduce heat to low and cook until all water is absorbed.
In the same pot, heat oil and add chicken, stirring continuously for 10-15 minutes until no pink remains.
Remove chicken and set aside.
Add more oil to the pot and fry onions until they start browning.
Add tomatoes, black pepper, vegeta, and coriander powder to the onions.
Top with roughly 2 cups of water and add tomato paste and a cinnamon stick.
Cook for 15 minutes or until water is reduced.
Add garlic paste and 4 packets of defrosted molokhia to the pot.
Add a little water and cumin powder, then cook on medium flame for 15 minutes.
Return the chicken to the pot, adjust salt to taste, and cook on the lowest heat for 10 minutes, stirring halfway through to prevent burning.
