Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Punch down the dough and divide it into equal portions for buns.
Shape each portion into a ball and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Cover the buns with a cloth and let rise again until puffy, about 30-45 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
Brush the tops of the buns with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown.
Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack before slicing.
