HP Brown Sauce, originating in the UK, has been a staple condiment since the late 19th century. It is cherished for its unique blend of sweet and tangy flavors, often enjoyed with meats and breakfast items. Today, it is a beloved accompaniment not just in Britain but also in various international cuisines, showcasing its versatility and appeal.

Citrus juice offers acidity while being more accessible.
Roughly cut up a small onion and place it in the pan.
Peel and roughly cut 2 Granny Smith apples and add them to the pan.
Cut up 3 prunes and add them to the pan.
Add 1/4 cup brown sugar and a generous pinch of salt to the pan.
Add spices: allspice, ginger, cayenne, and nutmeg to taste.
Add 1/2 cup malt vinegar to the pan and stir everything together.
Place the pan on low heat and allow it to come to a boil.
Once boiling, cover the pan and let it cook for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
After 30 minutes, take it off the heat when the fruit is soft.
Blend the sauce with a hand blender until smooth.
Optionally, strain the sauce through a sieve for a silky texture.
Check the consistency and return to the stove if too runny to thicken for 5-10 minutes.
Transfer to a sterilized bottle or jar and let it cool completely before using.
