Cold Sandwich

Cultural Context

The cold sandwich is a staple of American cuisine, often enjoyed for lunch or picnics. Its origins trace back to the 18th century when John Montagu, the Earl of Sandwich, famously requested meat between two slices of bread to eat while gambling. Today, cold sandwiches are customizable and found in various forms, from classic deli sandwiches to modern interpretations with gourmet ingredients.
