Fermented carrots have roots in various cultures, often used as a way to preserve vegetables. This method enhances flavors and adds probiotics, making them a healthy addition to meals. Today, they are popular in many cuisines around the world, often enjoyed in salads or as a crunchy side.
Quantities are estimated based on standard recipes for your convenience. The actual ingredients used in this video are accurate.
Prepare the carrots and place them in a jar for fermentation.
Add salt to the brine for fermentation.
Include a black tea bag in the jar to help maintain crispness.
Seal the jar with a canning lid and a silicone pickle pipe to allow gases to escape during fermentation.
Let the carrots ferment on the counter for three days.
After three days, loosen the canning ring and remove the pickle pipe to check the fermentation process.
Taste the fermented carrots to check for flavor and texture.
If desired, add a tablespoon or two of maple syrup or another sweetener to adjust sweetness before refrigerating.
Transfer the carrots to the refrigerator using a storage lid after removing the traditional canning lid.
Store the fermented carrots in the refrigerator for up to six months.
