1

Welcome to Cheryl's home cooking. Today I'm making poppy seed bread.

2

For the bread, I have 2 and 1/2 cups of flour. I'll place 2 cups into my mixer, leaving a half cup off to the side.

3

Add 3 tablespoons of sugar and 6 tablespoons of butter to the flour and mix it up like for pie crust.

4

Heat the milk to about 125°F and check with a thermometer.

5

Once the milk is at 125°F, add it to the flour mixture along with one packet of rapid rise yeast.

6

Mix this together, then add in 2 eggs and the remaining half cup of flour.

7

As the dough forms, I add about 3 tablespoons more flour to make it tighter.

8

Flour my surface, take the dough out, and knead it until nice and soft.

9

Cover the dough and let it rise for 10 minutes.

10

This recipe will make two 8-inch loaves, so spray the inside of the pans with cooking spray before placing the dough in.

11

After 10 minutes, flour the surface again and roll the dough out into a square.

12

Spread one can of poppy seed filling on the dough, leaving about half an inch from the edges.

13

Cut the dough in half and roll it up like a jelly roll, not too tight.

14

Place the rolled dough seam side down in the greased pan.

15

Cover the loaves and place them in a warm oven to rise for about an hour and a half.

16

After the dough has risen, preheat the oven to 350°F.

17

Mix one egg with about 2 tablespoons of water and brush it on top of the bread, then sprinkle sugar on top.

18

Bake in the 350°F oven for 30 minutes until golden brown.

19

Once baked, take the bread out of the oven and let it cool.
